STUDENT, JOURNALIST WIN BIG IN 1ST STAR BEER WIN & SHINE RAFFLE DRAW PARTY

The first of 100 ‘Win and Shine’ parties through which Star lager beer will reward consumers in its on-going promotion, was held on Saturday, September 7, 2013. The party which held at De Marquee, Mega Plaza, Victoria Island, Lagos, saw lovers of Star carting away cash and other exciting prizes such as LED TVs, DVD Home theatres, Blackberry Phones and jerseys.
The night’s big winners were however James Francis Enikuomehuin, a student, and Ikem Okuhu, a journalist. Their raffle tickets won them the N100,000 star prize of the night. Enikuomehuin was however the luckier of the two. Two of his raffle tickets won him N100,000 each, hence his bounty totaled N200,000.
Enikuomehuin, an undergraduate was highly elated. He said: said, “My target was to win a LED TV not something this big. I can’t even explain how elated as I speak. Right now, I’m just going to deposit the money and calm my nerves. It will definitely help in sorting out some my school expenses and that means taking some load off my parents.”
The 200 Level student of Chemical Science at the Olabisi Onabanjo University said he would fund part of his education from his largesse.
Ikem Okuhu said he had lost hope of winning any prize after several promo prize winners emerged from the raffle draw that same night. Okuhu noted: “Honestly I had given up hope. I was no longer expecting to get anything after several numbers had been called out and I didn’t hear mine. It was almost unbelievable when I heard my number and name”.
The veteran journalist also described the promotion mechanics as remarkable. He remarked: “The interesting thing about this promo is that it is instant, transparent, open and the prizes are mostly high-end."
In total, numerous Star consumers carted home 50 high net-worth prizes. Some of the other winners of the evening were Bolaji Babawale, an engineer who won N50,000; Lekan Ashimi, an upcoming musical Act who won a DVD Home Theatre; Johnny Abboud, a Lebanese and Spar operator who walked home with a Star branded Carpet; and Eze Chuks Spencer, a Fisheries student of University of Benin who went home with Manchester United jersey.
Speaking about his winning, Bolaji Babawale said he simply accompanied his friends to have a fun night. “I never expected to win anything this night because I never win in promos. I even gave out one of my tickets to my friend but here I’m with N50,000.”
Taiwo Shina, an events manager and DJ also carted home a DVD Home Theatre and a Star Branded carpet. Also joining the fray was Uche Opara, a student of Banking and Finance at Yaba College of Technology who went home with a Blackberry phone.
An ecstatic Taiwo had planned to go to a club that night but was later convinced by his friend to attend the first of Star Win and Shineparties. He confessed he never knew that winning prizes was a part of the party. He said: “As soon as we came someone told us there were prizes to be won if we bought Star and registered our crown corks. Immediately I started buying both for myself and my friends. I drank several bottles and I’m so happy it did not go in vain. Thanks to Star for making my night”, he said.
Dr Akin Babafemi, a Financial and Management Consultant and Managing partner Akinsanmi Babafemi& Co., described the draws as very transparent. He said: “I can only describe this draw in one word: transparency.”
Consumers can participate in the Star “Win & Shine” via two categories: instant and non-instant.
To win under the “Instant Prizes” category, all a consumer needs do is buy a 60cl bottle or 33 cl can of Star beer; and check under the crown cork or can lid. Prizes that can be won in this category are N200 airtime and free bottles of Star lager beer, which are redeemable at 5000 redemption centres across the country.
To win the recharge cards, consumers will find unique alphanumeric codes under their crown corks or can lids, which they need to send via SMS to 30383 to win airtime top-up worth N200.
To qualify to win any of the mouth-watering prizes in the Star Win and Shine parties, a consumer needs either two Star crown corks or can lids marked ‘DRAW ENTRY’; which they will exchange for a raffle ticket for a shot at the prizes.
